Essa fadiga contribui para a fibromialgia com baixa tolerância ao estresse que afeta até 90% dos pacientes.
É por isso que um estudo realizado por uma equipe da Universidade de Granada e publicado em janeiro de 2011 na revista Arquivos de Medicina Física e Reabilitação, analisou a resistência que esses pacientes têm na mão, para usá-lo como uma ferramenta complementar na avaliação da gravidade da fibromialgia em mulheres.
O objectivo era determinar a capacidade de teste de força na mão, quando discriminar entre a presença e a ausência de fibromialgia e a gravidade da mesma, em 81 mulheres com a doença e 44 mulheres saudáveis.
Eles mediram a força da força na mão com um teste de força isométrica máxima, com a ajuda de um dinamômetro manual. As mulheres foram classificadas de acordo com a pontuação obtida em: fibromialgia moderada (<70) e fibromialgia grave (70 ou mais). Os resultados que eles observaram foram:
A resistência ao limiar de resistência na mão que discrimina melhor a presença e ausência de fibromialgia foi de 23,1 kg.
O limiar que melhor discrimina entre fibromialgia grave e moderada foi 16,9 kg.
A força da mão força de 23,1 kg ou menos foi associada a ter um 33.8 vezes mais propensos a sofrer de fibromialgia idade após delimitado.
No grupo fibromialgia, uma força de força manual de 16,9 kg ou menos foi associada com uma probabilidade 5,3 vezes maior de sofrer de fibromialgia grave.
